Curveball #2. SEO Help On The infamous Google "Panda" Algorithm

Continuing on the topic of Search Engine Optimization I wanted to talk about a recent change that has effected millions of internet marketers, affiliate websites, and even SEO as a profession. Google decided to change the way their search engine algorithm worked for many reasons. People were exploiting the index bots Google uses by tricking them into thinking sites were relevant to searches when they were not as relevant as the common user would like. Which for a consumer is a wonderful thing for but a netrepeneur, as I like to call them, a death trap. There previous ways of creating back-links and keyword data have become obsolete. Here are a couple tips to say on top of Google's new Panda algorithm and keep your site rising in the ranks!

  • Post new content regularly
Since the Panda and Freshness updates, Google has been giving more weight and authority to those sites and domains that are releasing high quality, unique content consistently.  For many keywords this can really provide a lot of support against your competition, if they are not updating and adding new user worthy content, than you’ll see better rankings against those competitors overtime. However, do not spin articles of the same content, Google is getting much better at recognizing article spinning.

  • Make sure that other sites link to yours

Links help Google crawlers find your site and can give your site greater visibility in search results. When returning results for a search, Google uses sophisticated text-matching techniques to display pages that are both important and relevant to each search. Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote by page A for page B. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more heavily and help to make other pages "important."
Keep in mind that Google's algorithms can distinguish natural links from unnatural links. Natural links to your site develop as part of the dynamic nature of the web when other sites find your content valuable and think it would be helpful for their visitors. Unnatural links to your site are placed there specifically to make your site look more popular to search engines. Some of these types of links (such as link schemes and doorway pages) are covered in Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
Only natural links are useful for the indexing and ranking of your site

  • Make your site easily accessible

Build your site with a logical link structure. Every page should be reachable from at least one static text link, meaning you should be able to get to any page no matter which page you are at on your site.
Use a text browser, such as Lynx, to examine your site. Most Google spiders see your site much as Lynx would. If features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Macromedia Flash keep you from seeing your entire site in a text browser, then spiders may have trouble crawling it. So basically try and keep it simple for the Google spiders.

  • Diversity and Relevance is more important than ever.
When you are looking to create new back links and inbound properties throughout the web, you want to make sure that Google sees a relation between the topics and themes of your content and the site your distributing on.

  • Google wants to see MANY domains pointing toward your site, not MANY links from few domains
  • The higher the relevance, the higher the backlink quality will be
  • Don’t waste your time adding your site to non-relevant link farms and junk

These are some great tips to help your site recover from the Panda update. Here is a video from a Google employee going over some useful information on how to survive these changes.

Remember Google is getting smarter so YOU will have to as well! Take these tips and apply them to your site. Try and keep updating as often as possible! One important thing to remember is do not Spin Articles of the same content or you will be put into the Google Sandbox (Google's special place for bad  websites it thinks are trying to exploit the system!) your site will never make it to the top if this happens.  I hope this information is helpful and has been informative.

Thanks!

  1. This helps build credibility for your website in the minds of readers. Who would in turn stay longer on your website reducing bounce rate. This also helps build credibility in the eyes of search engines. So, the advantages are both ways.
