Lets Get Things Started With A Basic Reflective Logo in PhotoShop!

Hello!

For my first entry I wanted to do something pretty simple. I will be creating a simple lined grey logo with a reflection in Photoshop CS5.

I have included screen shots to help you follow along. Feel free to mess around with any setting as this is just a template for you to expand on!

Start with a new canvas.
Set the Height to 1920 pixels and the Width to 1080 pixels.
Set the Resolution 100 pixels per inch.

Select the Text tool (any font is OK.)
Type your text, if using 2 words make one word bold or in a different font
to create a contrast between the two.

Duplicate the layer (Ctrl-J)
Right click the new layer and select rasterize text.

This will create a layer from the text.
Select the new layer and click the Magic Wand tool.
Make sure the tolerance is set to 30 and Anti-alias and Contiguous are checked
Select all blank spaces in any closed letters by shift clicking them.
Go to Select > Modify > Expand
Expand by 2 pixels.
Select the Paint Bucket tool and the color black.
Double click the selected areas to color them in.
If your unable to do them together don't hesitate to fill them in individually.
Duplicate this layer 2 times
Select the top layer and go to Image Adjustment > Hue Saturation.
Change the Lightness to 40

Set opacity of this layer to 80
Move this layer between the 2 top layers.
Click the top layer then select Filter > Blur > Gaussian blur.
Set the blur to about 40 pixels

Choose the top layer and select the Rectangle Marquee tool
Create small boxes (lines) by dragging the tool from one side to the other.
Create multiple lines by holding down shift the whole time.
Make sure the lines vary in size.

After creating multiple lines click Select > Modify > Contract, and contract by 1 pixel.
Then press delete. (Should have created lines in image)

Deselect the tool to see effect (Ctrl-D)
Hold down shift and select top 2 layers then right click and duplicate them.
With 2 top layers selected go to Edit > Transform > Flip vertical

Drag the image directly beneath the original layers.

Select the top layer then click the Rectangle Marquee tool
Create a rectangle from the middle of the reflected image down.
Right click rectangle and select Feather and feather by 30 pixels.

Press delete then select second layer and press delete again.
Set opacity down to 30% for both layers
Select the background layer and then select gradient tool
Make the foreground color off white and the background color light grey
Shift click at the top of the image and drag to the bottom then release and you now have a gradient background.

Crop if desired and your logo is now complete.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and learned something from it. This was a very basic logo in Photoshop to get things started. Feel free to make any comments or submit an idea.
The original tutorial is from YouTube here is a link for the video

Thanks!
